Our experienced engineers can design and manufacture bespoke solutions and produce drive shafts of any length and diameter with the performance characteristics you require. Working with specialized machinery and state of the art computer aided design tools, we work with you to provide your business and application with a robust, cost effective and maintenance free solution. No project is too big or too small and we pride ourselves on designing and manufacturing a product that when installed in a customer’s application has a reputation of quality and reliability. Many of our customers have built a strong brand name from our product and this fundamental principle.
We also manufacture and supply spares for all types of flexible drive shafts, drive cables and rotary power tools and retro fit to existing machinery.
We can work to tight deadlines or alternatively work with the customer to evolve their product through the full product development cycle including robust trials and testingto a timeline that suits you.
We also carry a large amount of stock for our standard range of flexible drive shafts which enables us to provide a next day delivery service if required. We do not have a minimum order quantity so please feel free to contact us, no matter how small the job might be.
Flexible Drive &Toolhas designed and manufactured Flexible Drive Shaft solutions for a vast number of tools and applications. In addition to providing Flexible Drive Shafts for its own production of Concrete Vibrating Pokers it has developed Flexible Drive Shafts for applications such as Grinders, Pumps, Post Boring, Screed Vibrators, Descaling Equipment, Animal Shearing, Tyre Dressing, Meat Slicing, Speedo Cables, Remote Controls and many more.
The Company story began in the late 1920s in London selling imported descaling units. The business grew rapidly, and new premises were needed in South Kensington in the 1940s. Manufacture of Flexible Drive products started at this time and was combined with a collect and repair service for flexible drive shafts in the London area.
New facilities were established for the manufacture of Baxtul Flexible Drive Hand Tools and this grew quickly. Flexible Drive and Tool became preferred suppliers to major companies such as Hoover, Black and Decker, Borg Warner and David Brown Tractors.
The 1960’s saw the build of a manufacturing facility in Thetford, Norfolk to manufacture our own flexible drive core. Initially the flexible core was manufactured by the hand lay method and allowed the production of long straight lengths. This method proved to be very labour intensive, and it was not possible to produce large quantities although the quality of the product was excellent.To cope with an ever-growing demand for flexible drives and to improve capacity, high speed core machines were installed.By the 1970’smost of the flexible core production was going into the manufacture of Flexible Drive and Tools’ own range of Concrete Flexible Shafts Poker Vibrators.
The 1980’s saw Flexible Drive and Tool became part of the Flexible Drive & Tool Group and shortly after the turn of the century all operations were then transferred to the current site at Sheffield where flexible drives continue to be designed and manufactured using high speed core machines.Flexible Drive and Tool has worked alongside many companies in the past 20 years to establish solutions in applications such as Equine Dentistry, Animal Shearing, Production Machinery, Cleaning Systems, Remote Testing, Remote Valve Control, Meat Processing and Retrieval and Sub-Sea Tools as well as providing a variety of sizes of flexible core for other OEM’s.
Flexible Drive & Toolhas a history of design and manufacture of a range of equipment for the Mining and Construction Industries that spans a period of 150 years in 2025. 90 years of that history has included the rise of the Flexible Drive & Tool business that began by selling descaling equipment but today flexible drive solution for a wide variety of Industries.
