Flexible Drive & Tool expanded its manufacturing capability through the production of flexible drive hand tools and subcontract work, supporting a growing range of industrial customers.
During the 1960s, a manufacturing facility was established at Thetford to produce flexible drive core. Early cores were laid by hand before production methods developed to meet increasing demand.
The company expanded during the 1960s and introduced high-speed core machines to increase flexible drive manufacturing capacity.
Flexible Drive & Tool became part of the Fairport Group in 1983. Operations were later transferred to Sheffield, where flexible drive shafts and components continue to be manufactured. The images below show examples of products and applications developed across the company’s history.
