Flexible shaft outer casings support and protect the rotating inner core. Available constructions include reinforced neoprene or natural rubber with a spring-steel liner, and PVC or polyurethane coverings with steel or stainless-steel liners. Reinforced rubber options without a steel liner can also provide lower weight and greater flexibility. The casing should be selected for the shaft diameter, bend radius, movement, abrasion, temperature, moisture and contaminants.
